Evan Powis

jazz saxophone

Holding a bachelor degree in Jazz performance and Music Education from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Evan Powis has been studying music since he was five years old. Starting out on the violin, then moving to the tenor horn in Parramatta City Band, Evan finally found the saxophone by the age of eleven. Performing in jazz groups and stage bands from early on Evan learnt from greats such as James Morrison at music camps and continued on to study at one of Australia's most prestigous music schools the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied with Dale Barlow, Judy Bailey and Craig Scott. Evan released his first CD 'Imprints On A Dream' in his final year of study and is looking to record his second album.

Regular performances at the legendary Soup Plus in Sydney earnt evan a strong reputation in Sydney as one of its finest jazz musicians. Performances with the Mike Knock big band and many contracts with high class Sydney venues such as the Royal Botanical Gardens and The Sydney Aquarium ensued. Now Evan performs regularly with the Enormous Horns and has travelled with them as far abroad as Dubai and Thailand.

As a teacher Evan is highly sought after as a conductor, band leader and for private lessons. Teaching appointments at some of the most prestigous schools in and around Sydney reflect his talents not only as a performer but as an educator as well.
